Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says a secure and stable Iraq is in the interest of all regional states, including Iran.

“In order to reconstruct the ruins created during the reign of Saddam Hussein and the occupation establishing security and stability is a must in Iraq,” Larijani told Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki at Iran’s historic Parliament building on Baharestan Street.
Larijani added that Iran seeks to play a major role in the reconstruction of the war-torn country.
Al-Maliki arrived in Tehran Saturday on a formal three-day visit at the head of a high-ranking delegation to discuss avenues for increasing defense cooperation and trade between the two neighboring states.
He met with senior Iranian officials including Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Iran’s President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.
On Monday, Al-Maliki wrapped up his second visit to Tehran since last August.
